The working group between the Council of Europe and the Turkish Ministry of Justice met in Ankara

Experts of the Council of Europe paid a visit to the Ministry of Justice on 7 September, under the "Informal Working Group" with the participation of representatives of the Council of Europe, the European Court of Human Rights and the Ministry of Justice.

The experts also visited the Commission on Examination of the State of Emergency Procedures on Friday, 8 September 2017.

Within the scope of this visit, the Deputy Secretary of the Ministry of Justice Mustafa Erol, the Director General of Human Rights and Rule of Law of the Council of Europe Christos Giakoumopoulos, the Advisor of the General Secretary Leyla Kayacık and relevant authorities had a meeting.

During the meeting, "freedom of expression" and fight against "terrorism" were discussed and mutual views were exchanged on current developments and emphasis was given to the continuation of cooperation with the Council of Europe. The importance of the continuing dialogue and cooperation between Turkey and the Council of Europe was underlined.

Finally, Representatives of the Constitutional Court and the Court of Cassation made presentations on the case-law of these High Courts.
