THE DEPARTMENT OF HUMAN RIGHTS HAS BEEN ORGANISED AS A MAIN SERVICE UNIT

Pursuant to Article 13/C of the Law no. 2992 Amending the Decree Law on the Organisation and Duties of the Ministry of Justice,Added by Article 80 of the Decree Law no. 694 and dated 25 August 2017, the Department of Human Rights has been separated from the body of the General Directorate for International Law and Foreign Relations under which it carried out activities as from 2011, and organised as a main service unit.


Under Article 13/C of the Law on the Organisation and Duties of the Ministry of Justice no. 2992, the duties and powers of the Department of Human Rights shall be as follows:


-To follow up the applications lodged with the European Court of Human Rights and submit observations with respect to those applications; to carry out the processes of friendly settlement and unilateral declaration if deemed necessary.


- To carry out acts and actions concerning the execution of the judgments finding a violation, which are rendered by the European Court of Human Rights against our country; to make payments for the amounts of compensation and expenses awarded against our country.


- To submit observations of the Ministry with respect to the individual applications sent to the Ministry by the Constitutional Court, if deemed necessary.


- To make payments for the amounts of compensation awarded by the Human Rights Compensation Commission.


- To provide notices to relevant institutions and organisations for issues of recourse to be assessed.


- To conduct projects in cooperation with relevant institutions and organisations in the field of human rights; and to organize national and international symposiums, seminars and training activities.


- To ensure Turkish translation of the judgments rendered by the European Court of Human Rights in respect of our country.


- To perform other duties assigned by the laws and the Ministry.
